Phil Ivey has been branded as the number one poker player in the world by quite a few of the top professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching the age of one. His grandpa taught Phil one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup anything he possibly could about the game. Phil would tell his parents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. He didn’t permit the negative feedback from other people annihilate his ambition of being one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

He started competing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He sharpened his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning period and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made 2 final tables and came away with his 1st WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the closing table he defeated many of the well known pros which includes "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his skills to the next level and headed out west to Sin City. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to dedication and an immeasurable love for poker. He states that he’s learning every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes errors every single game of poker and always aspires to get better.

Despite the fact that Phil has come first in some big-time tournaments, he likes destroying cash games on a regular basis.
