Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed betting on numerous card games when he was young. He found himself getting very competitive in these card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to place college on hold for a little bit and relocated to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game taking place in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were tough as he would play extensive hours and lost most times. He earned some extra cash by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He judged he might boost his game by analyzing his life outside of poker. He made an effort to get more rest and focus even more on poker.

The real improvement in his skills happened when he began wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the best players would often challenge one another. Howard had access into a few of the greatest players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would sharpen his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit texas hold’em.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke learn the game of poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of the game as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie to head out to Las Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker tournaments. She is one of the strongest female players the poker world today. Howard Lederer relocated to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in cash games for the following 10 years. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to participate in more tournaments.
